Jodhaa replies that it would deceive Akbar and would be death to their kingdom if he finds out. Her mother gives her a vial of poison and tells her to use it if a need arises. Jodhaa demands a meeting with Akbar and demands to keep her Hindu religion after marriage, and that a temple be built for her to continue her faith,[10] with the intention of having the emperor call off the wedding. To her surprise, Akbar agrees to all her demands. After their marriage, Jodhaa acts reluctant with Akbar and they do not consummate their marriage. He assures Jodhaa that they will let things fall into place. Over time, both Jodhaa and Akbar learn from and gain admiration for each other.

Akbar’s nurse and nanny, Maham Anga, whom he loves like his own mother, despises Jodhaa and conspires to humiliate her in front of Akbar. She finds the letter Jodhaa had written and has it sent, and when Sujamal comes to meet Jodhaa in private, she insinuates to Akbar that Jodhaa went to meet her lover. Akbar sends his men to arrest Sujamal, who thinks Jodhaa has framed him, and immediately flees. Akbar is enraged and banishes Jodhaa. Jodhaa doesn’t give an explanation, indignant at her character being questioned. Later Akbar finds out the truth and goes to her maternal home, apologises to her, and asks her to come back, but she refuses. He also finds out that she is skilled in fencing, and engages in a playful duel with Jodhaa, who tells him to investigate the working of his relations and empire. Akbar returns and travels through the common folk in disguise to understand the problems of his people better.

Later, Akbar controls the dissents among the Hindus and Muslims by announcing that every religion has its rights in his empire. This impresses Jodhaa, who comes back to him and they consummate their marriage. Sujamal, Sharifuddin Hussain, and his allies attack Agra. After Sujamal overhears Sharifuddin plotting a silent attack on the emperor, he quickly leaves to warn Akbar of this conspiracy. Sharifuddin’s army chases Sujamal and kills him. He manages to warn the emperor of the attack, however, who then realises what the past misunderstanding was concerning the letter. Then he dies just after apologising to Jodhaa. Akbar defeats Sharifuddin in hand-to-hand combat, and then spares his life for the sake of his half-sister Bakshi Banu Begum, but not before stripping him of his title of Viceroy of Ajmer and Nagaur. Eventually, Akbar proclaims that Hindustan will be a peaceful and prosperous land if people respect and honour each other’s religions. The film ends as the narrator recounts that Jodhaa and Akbar made history through their unconditional and eternal love for each other, but is forgotten.

After a treaty between India and the United Kingdom to expedite extradition of terrorist Omar Zafar to India is passed, Col. Viren Nanda is murdered and burnt alive by Omar in London. Omar, who is escorted by his trusted lieutenant Hamid Gul, declares a $5 million reward for an Indian thief to steal the Koh-i-Noor diamond, so as to hold up the treaty. Later, a man named Rajveer Nanda steals it, and demands $20 million as Zafar and Gul aim to retrieve it. After a subsequent brawl with Gul’s men at a local restaurant in Shimla, Rajveer visits a restaurant where he meets an ambitious but unassuming bank receptionist, Harleen Sahni, who is waiting for her blind internet date, “Vickie Kapoor”, to show up. Rajveer assumes the date, and the pair fall in love, but he is forced to abandon her after being found by Gul’s surviving men. Harleen leaves upon learning the truth, but on her way back home, bumps again into Rajveer, who seeks her help to remove a bullet. Before leaving, he drugs her and informs her of scare tactics that some law enforcement officials will use to try and coerce her into working against him.

The next day, indeed as Rajveer had foretold, government agent Zorawar Kalra and his informer, Inspector Bhola, implore Harleen to travel with them to the Police Station, but instead head for a “safe place” ; taking note of Rajveer’s instructions, she finds a pistol and holds them at gunpoint. Rajveer soon appears and the pair escape, but meet Harleen’s manager, Karan Saxena, who Rajveer shoots in the leg. Harleen, preturbed, demands that she return home, having made a huge mistake by trusting him, which leads to an argument over their loyalties, but she eventually decides to stay upon realizing that he lierally intends to protect her, and proceeds to accompany him. Rajveer later reveals during a visit to a Pizza Hut outlet that he stole the Koh-i-Noor, much to Harleen’s surprise, and the pair are immediately confronted by Zorawar and his team, who had been following the duo. Rajveer shoots Harleen with a tranquilizer dart and they escape, with Harleen later waking up at a beach shack after an unknown period on the run. After she takes Rajveer’s phone to call her grandmother, which allows government officials and subsequently Gul’s men, led by his lieutenant Robert, to track them, a shootout ensues, which forces the duo to escape again after eliminating the officials and Robert’s henchmen.

Harleen wakes up the following morning in Prague; recognizing Rajveer’s efforts in leading the escape, she regains her faith in him. Later, they track Gul down to a casino, and after a ploy involving her, Rajveer ultimately kills Gul. Harleen is taken to the Indian Embassy, where she meets Zorawar and his commandant, Internal Secret Services chief Narayanan, as he gives her a tracking device to pinpoint Rajveer’s location and retrieve the Koh-i-Noor. After another argument on a bridge as they try to escape, Rajveer activates the tracking device himself, gives the Koh-i-Noor to Harleen and gets shot while jumping off the bridge.
