Baahubali: The Beginning is a 2015 Indian epic fantasy action film directed by S.S Rajamouli and produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni under Arka Media Works. Shot simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil, the film features an ensemble cast including Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishna, Sathyaraj, and Nassar. The first of two cinematic parts, the film follows Shivudu / Shiva, an adventurous young man who helps his love Avanthika rescue Devasena, the former queen of Mahishmati who is now a prisoner under the tyrannical rule of king Bhallaladeva. The story concludes in Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.

The film was conceived by Rajamouli’s father K. V. Vijayendra Prasad, who randomly told him a story about Sivagami, a woman who carries a baby in her hand while crossing a river, and a few years later about Kattappa, which intrigued Rajamouli. His fascination with mythology and the tales of the Amar Chitra Katha comics further fuelled his interest in the story. However, it took the writers three months to complete the final draft. The soundtrack and background score were composed by M. M. Keeravani while the cinematography, production design, and VFX were handled by K. K. Senthil Kumar, Sabu Cyril and V. Srinivas Mohan respectively.

The film was made on a budget of ₹180 crore (US$25 million), making it the most expensive Indian film at its time of release. The film opened worldwide on 10 July 2015 along with the dubbed versions in Hindi and Malayalam, garnering critical acclaim and record-breaking box office success. With a worldwide box office gross of ₹600 crore (US$84 million), it became the highest-grossing film in India, third highest-grossing Indian film worldwide, and highest-grossing South Indian film, at the time of its release. Its Hindi dubbed version also broke several records by becoming the highest-grossing dubbed film in India. Both budget and box office records have since been surpassed by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, the second highest grossing Indian film of all time.

It received several accolades. It won the National Film Award for Best Special Effects and Best Feature Film, becoming the first Telugu film to win the award. At the 63rd Filmfare Awards South, the Telugu version won five awards from ten nominations, including Best Film, Best Director for Rajamouli and Best Supporting Actress for Ramya Krishna respectively. Baahubali: The Beginning became the first Indian film to be nominated for Saturn Awards, receiving five nominations at the 42nd ceremony, including Best Fantasy Film and Best Supporting Actress.

Near the ancient Indian kingdom of Mahishmati, an injured woman is seen exiting a cave down by a mountain waterfall carrying an infant. She kills two soldiers pursuing and attempts to cross a raging river, but slips and is washed away in the current. Before drowning, she holds the baby aloft with her hand and prays to Lord Shiva, demanding that the baby – Mahendra Baahubali, must live. The baby is saved by the people of the local Amburi tribe, who reside near the river and worship Lord Shiva. Despite the villagers’ pleas to take the baby back up the mountain to where he came from, the wife of the tribe’s chieftain, Sanga, decides to adopt him, in order to protect him from harm’s way. She names the baby as Shivudu (Shivu).

Shivu grows up to be an ambitious and mischievous child, obsessed with the goal of ascending the mountain, curious to explore what is the top. Despite Sanga’s continuous pleas, he constantly tries and fails repeatedly, albeit improving at each attempt. At the young age of 25, he is shown to possess superhuman strength when he lifts a Lingam of Shiva and placing it at the foot of the mountain. He later finds a mask that has apparently fallen from the top of the mountain. Realizing it may possess feminine features, he is motivated to scale the mountain and succeeds, albeit with difficulty.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is a 2017 Indian epic action film directed by S. S. Rajamouli, who co-wrote the film with K. V. Vijayendra Prasad. It was produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni under the banner Arka Media Works. Simultaneously made in the Telugu and Tamil languages, the film features an ensemble cast including Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishna, Sathyaraj, Nassar, and Subbaraju. The second cinematic part in the Baahubali franchise, it is the follow-up to Baahubali: The Beginning, serving as both a sequel and a prequel.[6] The film is set in medieval India and follows the sibling rivalry between Amarendra Baahubali and Bhallaladeva; the latter conspires against the former and has him killed by Kattappa. Years later, Amarendra’s son returns to avenge his death.

Kattappa continues to narrate how he ended up killing Amarendra Baahubali.

After vanquishing the Kalakeyas, Amarendra Baahubali is declared as the future king of Mahishmati and Bhallaladeva its commander-in-chief. The Rajmata Sivagami orders Amarendra to tour the kingdom and its neighbourhood, along with Kattappa. During the tour, Amarendra witnesses an attack by Devasena / Thevasenai, the princess of Kuntala, a kingdom neighbouring Mahishmati. Falling in love with her, he approaches her after the fight, posing as a simpleton and an orphan and Kattappa plays a role as his uncle, and is accepted into the royal palace for a job.

Meanwhile, Kuntala is attacked by Pindaris, a dacoit-like army. Amarendra, with the help of Kattappa, Devasena’s maternal cousin, Kumara Varma, is able to nullify the attack and save Kuntala. Upon being questioned, Amarendra reveals his true identity. He receives a bird post from Mahishmati, ordering him to take Devasena as captive. He promises Devasena that he will protect her honour and convinces her to come with him to Mahishmati as his future bride.

Bijjaladeva convinces Kumara Varma that Bhallaladeva is after Amarendra’s life and he must kill the king to safeguard his brother-in-law. Kumara Varma enters the palace in the stealth of the night, only to be discovered by Bhallaladeva and be killed, but not before revealing their plot to convince Sivagami to kill Amarendra due to the people’s continuing respect for him. Sivagami, convinced that Bhallaladeva’s life is under threat but that open hostility would result in civil war, orders Kattappa to assassinate Amarendra. Kattappa, bound by his word to serve the Queen, lures Amarendra by feigning he is in trouble, and then stabs him in the back and kills him.

After Amarendra’s death, Kattappa soon learns of Bhallaladeva’s treachery and informs Sivagami, who reveals to the panicked hordes outside her palace that Amarendra is dead and that the baby Mahendra Baahubali would ascend the throne. As Bhallaladeva and his men are about to seize the queen, she flees with the new King but falls into a river after being hit by an arrow shot by Bhallaladeva. Bhallaladeva becomes a tyrannical emperor who holds Devasena prisoner for the next 25 years and destroys Kuntala, Mahendra ends up in alliance with the rebels who try to rescue her.

After listening to the whole story, Mahendra Baahubali (alias Shivudu / Shiva) immediately declares war. He assembles the rebel army, consisting of villagers and scattered soldiers. With Kattappa’s and Avantika’s assistance, the army lays siege to Mahishmati. Bhallaladeva recaptures Devasena, but Kattappa, Mahendra, and the rebels breach the city walls and save her. Mahendra fights his uncle and pins him down using the chains from Devasena’s cage. After completing a cleansing ritual Devasena burns Bhallaladeva on a pyre, ending his reign permanently.

The next day, Mahendra is crowned as the new king of Mahishmati with Avantika as his queen. He declares Mahishmati will be dedicated to upholding peace and justice under his leadership. He also orders his men to toss the head of Bhallaladeva’s statue out of the palace walls, where it is swept to the great waterfall. It breaks as it falls and crashes against the cliff’s walls and lands near the lingam that Mahendra carried earlier.

During the credits, a little girl listening to the story suggests that Mahendra and Avantika’s child will become the new king of Mahishmati. The narrator suggests that that is another story.

Soon, they realise that the case is linked to the death of a crime lord and an emerging gang war.

Narantak Roy, the crime boss of Waaji City’s underworld, is killed in a deliberate car crash in Mumbai. Devraj, the son of a former crime boss, declares himself the next crime syndicate leader. Ibrahim reveals to Kalki, legal advisor of the Roy Group, that Roy’s family has been killed twice, and he has been raising a secret for 25 years. The secret was that he had a son named Vishwank Roy. Vishwank foils Devraj’s plans by succeeding his father as the next boss. Vishwank is determined to unmask his father’s murderer.

The story turns to India, where a mastermind steals about two trillion rupees with ease. Since he used random people to rob the money who had no idea about what they were doing, it was difficult to identify the culprit. A nationwide search ensues to find the culprit. Undercover agent Ashok Chakravarthy, who is extremely secretive, is assigned head of the search. Working with Amritha Nair, an officer he likes, they uncover a thief named Jai. Ashok meets Jai in the bar and he reveals to him the black box, the key to the locker holding the money of all the gangsters which is located in Waaji City. Kalki, on Vishwank’s command, travels to Mumbai and takes the black box. During all this, Amritha and Ashok fall in love.

During a mission to catch Jai red-handed, there is a chase in which Amritha, Ashok, and David (a hacker) confront Jai. However, in a twist, it is revealed that the thief “Jai” is the real undercover police officer Ashok Chakravarthy all along. The lead officer that has been with them the entire time is actually the real thief who stole the two trillion rupees, Saaho. As Saaho escapes with his partner David, Amritha, along with the entire police department, is left stunned.

It’s revealed that Devraj had Roy killed to usurp his throne. Amritha tracks Saaho and pretends that she is still in love with him but is actually helping Ashok. However, she actually falls for Saaho in the process and betrays Ashok. When Amritha is shot and taken away by Devraj, Saaho is forced to give him the black box. However, he deceives Devraj and gives the black box to Vishwank. Saaho destroys Devraj’s building and steals the money he had. He is chased by Ashok and the police, with a sniper in a helicopter aiming at him and a person in a jetpack chasing him. Saaho overpowers his opponent. Amritha, also in the helicopter, tries to save Saaho by distracting the sniper, but the sniper pushes her into danger. Saaho saves her with a jet pack but is arrested.

Kalki is revealed to be on Devraj’s side. She opens the vault with Vishwank’s fingerprint and the black box and finds pictures of Roy and his son. Saaho battles Devraj’s goons and defeats them. Devraj arrives, and Saaho reveals that he is Siddhant Nandan Saaho, the real son of Roy. He also reveals that he did all this to avenge his father’s death. Ashok and Amritha learn Saaho’s real identity as well. Kalki sees a portrait of Roy and Saaho in the vault, shocking all of them. Saaho kills Devraj, finally avenging his father’s death.

Ibrahim reveals that Vishwank was not Roy’s son, but Ibrahim’s own son; his real name is Iqbal, and he was brought in to save Roy’s throne. He reveals Saaho’s real identity to the gang members, and Saaho becomes the next king of the underworld. Months later, Saaho locates Amritha in Innsbruck, Austria and proposes; they kiss. A sniper aims at Saaho as he opens his eyes, aware of the danger in the distance.

Near the ancient Indian kingdom of Mahishmati, an injured woman is seen exiting a cave down by a mountain waterfall carrying an infant. She kills two soldiers pursuing and attempts to cross a raging river, but slips and is washed away in the current. Before drowning, she holds the baby aloft with her hand and prays to Lord Shiva, demanding that the baby – Mahendra Baahubali, must live. The baby is saved by the people of the local Amburi tribe, who reside near the river and worship Lord Shiva. Despite the villagers’ pleas to take the baby back up the mountain to where he came from, the wife of the tribe’s chieftain, Sanga, decides to adopt him, in order to protect him from harm’s way. She names the baby as Shivudu (Shivu).

Shivu grows up to be an ambitious and mischievous child, obsessed with the goal of ascending the mountain, curious to explore what is the top. Despite Sanga’s continuous pleas, he constantly tries and fails repeatedly, albeit improving at each attempt. At the young age of 25, he is shown to possess superhuman strength when he lifts a Lingam of Shiva and placing it at the foot of the mountain. He later finds a mask that has apparently fallen from the top of the mountain. Realizing it may possess feminine features, he is motivated to scale the mountain and succeeds, albeit with difficulty.
