The Battle of Stalingrad ended. The Soviet Army is preparing a large-scale Belarusian strategic offensive operation codenamed “Bagration”. A week before the start of the operation, it becomes known that the Germans have mined all the approaches to the city of N. Roads, bridges, forests are mined. They have created entire minefields. The city itself is totally mined. Civilians may suffer. An experienced scout Tishkov is called to the army headquarters. Fyodor Tishkov, a former circus performer who once performed with power numbers, receives a new task.

Tishkov’s group needs to steal a mining map codenamed “Gorgon” within three days. If the task is not completed, civilians will die, and there will be losses among our soldiers. Moscow demands that the offensive begin on the dates clearly indicated by it. Tishkov and members of his group, former circus performers, are thrown into the rear of the Germans…

In November 1980, the widow of A. Tolstoy was robbed. Antiques are taken out of the apartment, but, most importantly, the Royal Lily brooch, made for Louis XV, disappears of extraordinary beauty. Since Tolstoy’s widow has extensive connections both in the USSR and abroad, the case receives a wide resonance, the most serious forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are involved in the investigation, the Interior Minister Shchelokov personally monitors the progress of the investigation.

The investigation goes to the participant of the robbery – the wife of a French diplomat who is going to leave the country. Her accomplice, a well-known Odessa thief named Bes, was also detained. However, no diamonds were found with them. Investigator Shakhov unwinds the chain, hoping to reach the customer – the traces lead higher and higher up the corporate ladder, and the investigation becomes more and more dangerous for Shakhov.
