Seeta aur Geeta (“Seeta and Geeta”) is a 1972 Indian Bollywood comedy-drama film, written by Salim-Javed (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar) and directed by Ramesh Sippy. It stars Hema Malini, Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar in leading roles, and features music composed by R.D. Burman.

The story is about identical twins (played by Hema Malini) who are separated at birth and grow up with different temperaments. The twins then swap places (like The Prince and the Pauper). The two sisters’ partners in the movie are played by Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar. Manorama plays the evil aunt who changes her tune after her arm is twisted (literally). Furthermore, Hema Malini was noted for the novelty of her role as Geeta where she is rambunctious and sometimes violent.

The main theme of this movie was copied from the superhit Tamil movie Enga Veettu Pillai starring Superstar M. G. Ramachandran. As hinted in the Wikipedia page, it is said that the producer of this movie B. Nagi Reddy was furious with Salim-Javed for copying his story and hence he went on to quickly move on to making remakes in other languages include the Telugu film Ganga Manga (1973) and the Tamil film Vani Rani (1974), both starring Vanisri in the dual roles.

This Tamil film was remade as Ram Aur Shyam starring Dilip Kumar in the leading dual role, which inspired Salim-Javed to write Seeta Aur Geeta, but they subverted the formula by having the heroine eventually become the “hero” while the male lead is in a mostly supporting role. Another earlier film with a similar theme was Muqabala (1942) starring Fearless Nadia. Subsequent Hindi remakes of the story have been made, including Jaise Ko Taisa starring Jeetendra, ChaalBaaz starring Sridevi, Kishen Kanhaiya starring Anil Kapoor, Judwaa starring Salman Khan Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi starring Kajol, in the dual roles.

Hema Malini won her only competitive Filmfare Best Actress Award of her career. P. Vaikunth won the Filmfare Best Cinematographer Award. In 1976, the film was shown in the Soviet Union where it was a success.

A shrewd entrepreneur, Durgeshwari Devi, manages her business with an iron hand. She shows little emotions and is often cruel in matters that affect her honor. She sends a poor girl Indu to Jail on false charges when Indu refuses to break up with her son Dheeraj. Outraged by her actions, Indu’s brother Raja, promises to seek revenge. He marries his lover Rekha, after learning that she is Durgeshwari’s daughter. Raja then draws a plan to teach Durgeshwari an unforgettable lesson on humility.

Synopsis : Dharmatama is a 1975 Hindi movie and the first Bollywood film to be shot in Afghanistan. It was produced and directed by Feroz Khan. The movie is the first attempt in India to localise The Godfather. The title character was based on matka (form of Indian gambling) king Ratan Khatri. It is said that Khan sat down with Khatri to learn more about him and understand the nuances of matka. The cast includes Feroz Khan, Hema Malini, Rekha, Premnath, Imtiaz Khan, Danny Denzongpa, Farida Jalal, Ranjeet, Helen, Madan Puri, Jeevan, Iftekhar and Dara Singh. The music is by Kalyanji Anandji. This film took Feroz Khan to new heights in his career as this was a blockbuster movie. The same year, Sholay and Deewar were released. The film is also its scenes featuring Buzkashi a Central Asian sport on horses, including aerial shots, which in turn won film’s cinematographer, Kamal Bose, Filmfare Award for Best Cinematographer.

Jesu (Dharmendra) and Peter (Vinod Mehra) are childhood friends who live at a coastal village in India. They depend on fishing as their livelihood. The evil Alphonso (Amjad Khan) and his men are continuing with their smuggling trade on the coast. Tragedy strikes this fishing community when they find out that their livelihood is being threatened by a gigantic man eating shark. Jesu decides to end the terror of this deadly Shark and also the illegal trade by Alphonso.
