I am not a film maker or a journalist. Just a huge horror movie fan who has seen A LOT of movies. I watch horror movies because I want to feel all those typical horror movie feelings. Heart racing, closing your eyes and peeking through your fingertips, can’t get to sleep, stare at the screen and yell, “No!!!!”.
This movie gave me ALL of that.
I usually don’t watch foreign horror because I can’t be still long and often enough to watch subtitles all the time. But this was one, is a mix of English and Bulgarian and WELL worth it. I might even dip into some Japanese horror now. written by hkite

“I also saw this movie at one of the advance screenings. This is my first time posting on this site, but after seeing this film I had to. I have always loved Italy, in particular, Tuscany. This movie captures the feel of small village life perfectly. Being a huge Joshua Jackson fan I was eager to see the film and I was not disappointed. Jackson and Keitel are wonderful together and the story of this young, reserved writer who is afraid to follow his heart and the older writer who is afraid he cannot be what he once was is magical.

We all live our lives with, hopes, dreams and desires and somehow through time they seem to fade away. This movie deals with the courage it takes to truly follow your heart and do the things you love most.

Of course it is more than that, because Jackson’s character also falls in love with Keitels daughter… but will he find the strength and conviction to make it work?

The scenery is fantastic. Ah, Tuscany, the golden light, the stone buildings. Itr is almost as if the village they filmed in is another character in the movie. The lighting is wonderful, filled with shadows… but the key to the movie rests with the performances of Jackson, Keitel and Claire Forlani. Also the actors who play the priest and hotel owner are wonderful.

This is not a big movie… not a huge budget movie… it is a simple story about life… love… and finding it within yourself to reach out and take hold of the things that are most important.

A young, structured, yuppie book editor is sent to Tuscany to convince a reclusive, eccentric brilliant author to return to writing by signing a book deal with his publishing house. In the process of pressing for what his boss wants, he discovers more about the man behind the words, as well as himself. The question is who is going to help who win the battle of realizing ones dreams.

How this film escaped the attention of the Academy Awards Committee is beyond me. It starts with one of the most intelligently and beautifully crafted scripts that has ever been written, weaving a simple plot line with exquisite dialogue and very powerful human emotions. The cast is phenomenal. Every performance is so strong yet subtle, it is impossible to imagine anyone else in any of the roles, and leaves you wanting to know more about every character. The direction is exactly what it should be – a synthesis of all creative efforts from all of the diverse inputs. The movie is also sculpted with magnificent cinematography, and of course, topped off with an amazing sound track.
