The stereoscopic panoramic videos that we're showing on Samsung VR are getting a lot of positive traction. It's exciting when you see creative types – whether from the music, film, or video industries – look at this stuff. The gears are turning in their head almost immediately about how they can use it as a new medium.

There were only 75 people in my graduating class at the school I attended in Hannah, S.C. It was a small school and that translated into not a lot of opportunities when it came to music. We had academic and sports programs but we never had a consistent music program. We would have a band one year, and a chorus one year, but nothing ever lasted.

Art, whatever form it takes, requires hard work, craftsmanship and creativity. As a writer, I know my grammar, cadence, the music of prose, and the art of the narrative.

In regard to music, I just think that it's always best to have an attitude of being a perpetual student and always look to learn something new about music, because there's always something new to learn. Don't dismiss something out of hand because you think it's either beneath you or outside of the realm of where your interests lie.

I love the music of Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu and more recently the music of Laura Marling. All these women share a strength and a wisdom in their voices and music that really makes me want to make music and sing.

For me, fragrances are very – one of these beautiful art forms that bring about a whole host of things. It's what you want to smell like, it's memories that make you smile or are resonant of times in your life, it can remind you of music. If you're a lover of scent, it's a very kind of particular and evocative thing.

Music is the way I understand how to communicate now, the way that I've learned how to communicate… but it will eventually have to go beyond that. You see, I've realised that music is not what keeps people involved – it's the attitude behind the music.

And what I love about music and art in general is that you can take something so negative or positive – any emotion, no matter how sad or happy – and turn it into art.

Music is an expression of individuality; it's how you see the world. All art is, for that matter. You take how you experience the world, interpret it, and send it out there – express it – whether it's sculpture, dance or singing.

What I want to do with my music is to just encourage vulnerability, and to talk about things even if they're uncomfortable. Everyone has mental health – everyone has a mind that works in different ways and goes through highs and lows.
