“Pushpak” (English: The Love Chariot) is a 1987 Indian silent, black comedy film written, and directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao. Touted to be the first Indian silent full-length feature film, it was produced by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao and Shringar Nagaraj. Upon release, the film garnered highly positive reviews, and remained a box office hit.
The film has received the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, and Filmfare Award South for Best Film. The film was premiered at the International Film Festival of India, 1988 Cannes Film Festival in the International Critics’ Week, and retrospective at the Shanghai Film Festival, and Whistling Woods International InstituteThe film is listed among CNN-IBN’s hundred greatest Indian films of all time.

Synopsis:An unemployed youth (Kamal) dreams of living well. One evening, he finds a drunken industrialist (Sameer Khakkar) passed out in a gutter, and takes the opportunity to switch places with him. He finds love, intrigue, and the good life in his new home, Pushpak, a hotel where the industrialist was booked in. A silent masterpiece.
