Prakash Raj is essaying role of Vengadam the best silk weaver in a small town of Kanchivaram in Tamil nadu. He pledges that he would give his daughter a silk saree in her marriage. His pledge becomes the talk of the town as a weaver could not afford such an expensive saree in pre independence era. He saves up money but his brother-in-law ruins his plans. He starts stealing silk strands from his work place. At the same time he is heading a strike against his owner for weavers pay hike. The strike acts as a deterrent to his pledge. His daughters marriage is drawing near and he gets more desperate to finish the silk saree on time. What will Vengadam do now? Find out for yourself. This performance earned Raj a national award for best actor.
