While released on furlough from prison, a lowly criminal evades his guards and returns to his old haunts to take revenge on the people that made him a cold-hearted killer. It’s an epic, bloody battle to search for the soul he lost years ago on the streets of an unforgiving city.
Adkins plays a man who escapes from prison, only to hunt the people who betrayed him. Story-wise, there is zero surprise here. But the biggest plus from this movie is the pacing, the gritty atmosphere and a convincing Scott Adkins who after some pretty bad and repetitive movies finally found his rhytm. Acting, facial expressions, voice (accent) etc. fall neatly in place and the action scenes are plenty, without acrobatics, but decent, hard and entertaining. This makes me wanna see more from Scott Adkins and Jesse Johnson.

Avengement may seem like your cliche straight forward revenge story that we’ve seen countless times. But It’s so much more than that, here we get to see how a character change and try to survive the constant onslaught of prison inmates trying to kill him. How he overcomes those situations and how you are rooting for him to succeed, But with in the underlying caricature comes a story of betrayal, deceit and pain. The movie comes with suburb acting from Adkins, which i think it’s his best, and of course the fight scenes are equally grotesque as well as amazing. Overall: I recommend this movie 100% whether your an Adkins fan or an action movie aficionado. P.S This film will go under the radar but in the future it will be a classic.
