In this episode, which is a part of my series, CLASSIC HOLLYWOOD MOVIE REVIEWS, we review SOMEBODY UP THERE LIKES ME, which was directed by Robert Wise, written by Ernest Lehman and starred Paul Newman, Pier Angeli, Steve McQueen, Sal Mineo, Eileen Heckart, Everett Sloane, Robert Loggia and Harold J. Stone ! The movie is about the life and boxing career of Rocky Graziano!
My guest is writer J.R. Jordan, who wrote the book ROBERT WISE: THE MOTION PICTURES, which is a critical analysis of all of the movies Robert Wise directed, as well as biographical details.
We discuss Joe’s book and the versatility of Robert Wise, who also directed some of the greatest movies from the Classic Hollywood period, such as, THE HAUNTING, WEST SIDE STORY, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, THE SET-UP, BORN TO KILL, ODDS AGAINST TOMORROW among many others ! Robert Wise was also a film editor, and edited CITIZEN KANE, which was directed and co-written by Orson Welles.
I highly recommend the book to Classic Hollywood lovers, film buffs and cinephiles! This is a must read!
