There have been 27 deaths related to the Palisades and Eaton wildfires, according to a Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office report released Thursday.

Ten of the deaths were related to the Palisades Fire and 17 deaths were related to the Eaton Fire, the report says.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives team investigating the cause of the deadly Los Angeles County wildfires is processing a “tremendous amount of information,” said ATF Director Steven Dettelbach, who warned a conclusion in the probe would not come quickly.

The bureau is gathering forensic evidence from the scene and leads and bringing “a team of people who follow these leads,” Dettelbach told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Thursday.

Referencing the fire’s destruction of structures and acres, Dettelbach said: “The scope of the evidence and the scope of the information is going to be vast. And I warn people, it will take a long time. The most important thing for ATF is to get it right.”

Fires across the Los Angeles area have killed at least 25 people, destroyed more than 12,000 structures and charred more than 60 square miles. The largest by far — the Palisades and Eaton wildfires — continue to burn out of control, officials said.
The National Weather Service L.A. office says winds “underperformed” Tuesday, but one more winds “enhancement” could sweep in on Wednesday. It kept a rare “Particularly Dangerous Situation” Red Flag Warning in effect for 3 a.m. local time Wednesday until 3 p.m. “We are not out of the woods yet,” the office said about the latest winds worries.
Officials said some 88,000 people in Los Angeles County were under evacuation orders. Curfews are in effect for the Palisades and Eaton fire zones from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Prolonged drought, an exceptionally dry winter and powerful Santa Ana winds set up a dangerous triple whammy of extreme conditions that have fueled several out-of-control wildfires in the Los Angeles area.

Fast-moving fires have engulfed the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, along with parts of the Hollywood Hills, Pasadena, Altadena, Sylmar, and other areas, with 11 deaths reported and more than 12,000 structures destroyed as of Friday.

The Los Angeles wildfires have left a trail of destruction, killing at least 24 people and destroying thousands of structures, officials said. Although containing the deadly infernos has been difficult and will remain so as ominous new wind warnings were issued for Southern California communities. Here are latest updates on the most destructive in the history of Los Angeles which has scorched over 23,000 acres, destroying homes, businesses and numerous landmarks:

1. Palisades Fire has expanded to the north and the east owing to which evacuation orders and warnings were issued to parts of Encino and Brentwood. The fire has been 13% contained so far.

2. Officials said that Santa Ana winds that have fueled the blazes for the past week were picking up in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. The resurging winds could complicate efforts and enhance the risk level, officials warned as they forecast north-northeast wind gusts between 35 to 55 mph. A red flag warning is in effect until Wednesday as strong winds will be accompanied by low humidity and dry vegetation.

3. Over 12,000 structures have been damaged or destroyed by the wildfires, which have consumed about 40,300 acres of total land.

4. Evacuation orders have been given to 105,000 residents while another 87,000 residents have been warned that they may have to evacuate.

5. Eaton fire has been contained 27% while Hurst fire has been stopped 89%. Three other blazes- Kenneth, Sunset, and Sunswept- have been contained completely.
