About this video: If you want to know how to get shaders in Minecraft PC 1.21.5, this is the video for you! We show you exactly how to install shaders on Minecraft 1.21.5. This will allow you to customize Minecraft 1.21.5 adding in better lighting, ambiance, and overall improving the look of Minecraft 1.21.5. After this video, you will be able to install any shaders pack you want using the Iris Shaders mod!
Why are we using the Iris Shaders mod instead of OptiFine for Minecraft 1.21.5? Well, OptiFine hasn’t been updated to Minecraft 1.21.5, but as soon as it has, we will do a video on it, so be sure to subscribe. However, Iris Shaders, alongside Sodium, which is required for Iris Shaders, typically perform better than OptiFine, so in 99% of cases, it is recommended to use them over OptiFine 1.21.5.
Nevertheless, to get started, we will need to download Iris Shaders. There is a link to download Iris Shaders for 1.21.5 in the description above. This will take you to our complete text guide on getting Iris Shaders. Once you are there, click the “Download Iris Shaders” button to go to Iris Shader’s official download page.
On the Minecraft shaders download page, click the “Download Universal Jar” link to download the Iris Shaders Installer.
We will also need to download Shader Packs. There is a link to our list of some of the best Minecraft 1.21.5 shader packs for you to download. Any shader pack on our website will work. You can find other shader packs on CurseForge and Modrinth. All of the modern shader packs out there will work with Minecraft shaders and specifically Iris.
After you have Iris and your shaders packs downloaded, find the Iris Installer you downloaded. Open the Iris Installer with Java by right-clicking on it, selecting “Open With” and “Java”. In the Iris Installer, Click on the “Install” button, Minecraft Shaders for 1.21.5 will now be installed! It’s that easy to get the shaders mod.
Open up the Minecraft Launcher and play Minecraft using the Iris + Sodium installation. Then, once you are in-game, navigate to Options, Video Settings, and “Shaders” in the top right. This is your shaders menu. Click the “Shaders Folder” button to open your shaderpacks folder. Drag-and-drop any Minecraft shaders packs you want to install into this folder. You can install as may shader packs as you want, but you can only activate one at a time.
To play Minecraft with shaders on PC 1.21.5, click on the shader pack you want to play Minecraft with. It will then activate. There are “Shader Settings” in the bottom. Clicking on these will allow you to customize your Minecraft shader packs and make them more of your own. This is great for changing lighting or improving performance with a shader pack. With shaders, you will be able to completely transform the lighting, shading, and overall ambiance of Minecraft 1.21.4. That includes things like leaves blowing in the wind and clouds that are volumetric and look closer to real life.
To get started with how to download shaders for Minecraft 1.21.4, we will need to download the Iris Shaders Installer. Iris Shaders is the Minecraft shader mod for 1.21.4 that allows you to add in different types of shaders to Minecraft.

Once you have your shader packs downloaded, you can play Minecraft using your Iris Shaders 1.21.4 installation in the Minecraft Launcher.
Then, from the Minecraft main menu, click on Options, Video Settings, and Shader Packs in the top right of the screen. This is your shaders menu where you will be able to selected and see the shader packs you have installed. To install shaders in Minecraft 1.21.4, drag-and-drop the shader packs you want to install into this shaders menu.
Once you have done that, they will appear. You can click on the shader pack you want to play and click “Apply” to activate it. You will see a “Shader Settings” button at the bottom of the shader menu. This is great for editing your 1.21.4 shader pack settings. Every shader pack is different, but this can help if you want better performance with shaders or to change settings like the color temperature of your shader pack.
