How to Make Millie’s Quilt – Free Quilting Tutorial

For generations, the world’s best millstones all came from one quarry in France. And when that quarry ran out, they did just what we would do:

They used the scraps to make patchwork stones with cement sashing and iron binding—pretty to look at and practical, too.

This week, Natalie is stitching up her own pieced “millstones” with precut layer cake squares from West Palm Beach by Jennifer Paganelli for Windham Fabrics. These blocks are easy to make, with enough left over for a bonus table runner.

Missy Luukkonen of The Little Green Bean has always loved to sew and craft. But, she wasn’t a quilter.

Then, as part of “Team Jenny” at our Birthday Bash Sew-Off, Missy was tasked with stitching dozens of hurried half-square triangles. (She had NEVER before sewn a half-square triangle.) And—as you may have guessed—she was instantly hooked.

Now, Missy is in town again to share her Pinwheel Path pattern. And guess what? It’s all half-square triangles made with one of Missy’s very own layer cakes.

Shop Bundles and Bows quilt supplies here:

Identical twin sisters Lisa and Lora learned to sew as children, but they never quilted. So how did they become top quilt designers?

It all began when Lisa signed up for a Block of the Month with a friend named Ingrid.

1000 miles away, at the exact same time, Lora also joined her first Block of the Month…with a friend named Inger!

“It’s a twin thing,” they say.

We’ve loved Material Girlfriends patterns for years. (Remember the Wallah quilt?) And this week, Jenny is stitching another of their designs, Bundles and Bows.

This quilt comes together quickly with the Hey Boo Halloween layer cake by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics. (Don’t miss that cute striped binding!)
