How to do Straight Leg Jump Throughs in Ashtanga Yoga

Download

When it comes to jumping through in your Ashtanga practice, have you ever tried to keep your legs straight? If you usually cross them or you want to understand when to choose one transition over the other, this video is for you!

In this tutorial, we’re showing you how to do the STRAIGHT LEG JUMP THROUGH. This action, along with the crossed leg jump through, can become a fundamental transition within your entire Ashtanga practice. You’ll learn when, and why, to keep the legs straight or crossed and when we do each jump through variation in our own practice. We show you how to set up for the jump, what to do with your hands, legs, hips, and back, and how to get over the fear that might show up when it’s time to jump. You’ll also understand the correct direction to jump and why “up” isn’t always the best option.
