Did you know the top layer of your gums sits around your tooth like a turtleneck, it’s not attached to bone or the tooth. It’s called the “gingival pocket” or the “free gingiva”. In healthy mouths it’s 1-3mm in depth, and it’s that space you’re scrubbing down into with your floss to make sure it’s squeaky clean of food and plaque debris!
The flossing method here is called the C-shaped technique, in this case with a floss pick.
Did you know there are other flossing alternatives to string – interdental brushes AKA proxabrushes and waterpiks are popular as well.
