I love you, Mango 💕

As some of the most recognizable names and logos around the world, soda companies have put in enough work over the past nearly 150 years that they’ve practically cemented themselves as symbols of western culture. Coca-Cola and Pepsi alike have played a masterful gambit with the capitalist system, limit-testing its framework and on some occasions breaking it all in the name of increasing shareholder value. They’re prevalence and impact in the marketplace of goods is so pronounced that they’re often some of the first brands to pop into mind when thinking about capitalism. But one does not climb so far up without treading on the backs of others, and for all the prosperity of the soft drink industry, there are thousands around the world that have suffered the consequences. This video explores not only some of the wacky history of soda companies, but also the very real suffering they’ve inflicted on disadvantaged people, ecosystems, and animals around the world. In a system where the one motive to rule them all is profit, people often let little stand in their way.
