Chwee Kueh in Teochew can be translated as ‘Water Cakes’. So why is this favorite Singaporean dish called ‘Water Cakes’? It isn’t because of the ingredient of water, but rather, because of the small dimple formed during the steaming process. This collects a pool of water, and hence the name!
