How to Make an Akash Kandil at Home | Step-by-Step DIY Tutorial with Cardboard & Paper
Materials You’ll Need:
Cardboard papers (for the frame)
Colorful tissue papers (for covering the frame)
Golden paper (for decoration)
Glue or PVA glue
Thread (for hanging)
Ruler and pencil (for markings)
Scissors or cutting tools
Step 1: Create the Frame
Cut the Cardboard: Start by cutting your cardboard as shown in this video, please comment to know the particular sizes.
Assemblling: Assemble the pieces to make the skeleton.
Build the Vertical Structure: Attach the remaining four strips vertically to the corners of the square base. These will create the vertical height of your lantern. Glue them securely in place.
Join all together with a glue: Once you connect the pieces, your basic lantern frame is ready!
Step 2: Cover the Frame with Tissue Paper
Cut Tissue Paper: Measure and cut colorful tissue papers according to the size of each side of the frame. Leave a little extra around the edges for easier gluing.
Glue the Tissue Paper: Carefully glue the tissue paper onto the cardboard frame, covering all sides. Make sure to smooth out any wrinkles to keep it neat.
Decorate the Top and Bottom: Use golden paper to add decorative borders to the top and bottom edges of the lantern for a more festive look.
Step 3: Add Decorative Elements
Create Fringe Decorations: Cut strips of tissue to make fringes and attach them to the bottom of the lantern. This adds a traditional touch to your Akash Kandil.
Design Extra Patterns: Cut out shapes or patterns from colorful or golden paper to stick on the sides of the lantern. Feel free to be creative with your designs!
Step 4: Attach the Thread and Final Touches
Attach the Thread: Tie a piece of thread to the top of the lantern to create a handle for hanging. Make sure the thread is strong enough to hold the weight of the lantern.
Secure Everything: Double-check that all parts are glued securely and the tissue paper is smooth.
