Tridev, released in 1989, is an action thriller film directed by Rajiv Rai and produced by Gulshan Rai. The film features a stellar cast including Amrish Puri, Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Naseeruddin Shah, Madhuri Dixit, Sangeeta Bijlani, and Sonam. The film was a box-office hit, and its songs such as “Tirchi Topiwale”, “Gali Gali Mein”, and “Oye…O, Oye Ooo” were widely appreciated. In 1990, Tridev won three Filmfare Awards.

Tridev is considered a modern tale of the trinity of gods. The story revolves around an honest police officer, Karan (Sunny Deol), who is framed by a powerful criminal, Bhujan (Amrish Puri). Karan is engaged to Divya (Madhuri Dixit), the daughter of the city’s police commissioner (Anupam Kher), but her brother Ravi (Jackie Shroff) is involved in criminal activities and even joins forces with Bhujan and his sons (Dan Dhanoa and Tej Sapru). When Karan is wrongfully implicated and sent to a village called Madhavpur, he meets Jai Singh (Naseeruddin Shah), a kind-hearted villager who had also suffered at the hands of Bhujan when he was known as Bhairon Singh. In a twist of fate, Jai becomes a film star and moves to the city after Karan is burned alive. With a little help from Ravi, Karan survives the attack on his life and becomes a vigilante man. The three heroes—Karan, Jai, and Ravi—along with their love interests Divya, Renu (Sonam), and Natasha (Sangeeta Bijlani), attempt to eliminate Bhujan.
