Sameer Behl comes to Mumbai with Bollywood dreams, struggles through the day as a courier, and keeps failing in auditions for advertisements. He refuses to accept help from his father in Delhi and is thrown out of his rented flat by the landlord. One day, a movie director named Rajeev Sharma and his assistant director see Sameer dancing and call him to the office. Soon, Sameer is signed as the male lead in Sharma’s film, and his friend Tina is selected as the choreographer on the same project. Homeless, Sameer sleeps in his car and works as a dance teacher in a school. Subsequently, Sameer loses the film and grows disillusioned. Tina tells him that she also quit her job as choreographer for the film because she saw how upset he was. Sameer realises Tina loves him. Tina encourages him to participate in a television talent-hunt show, the winner of which will win the same role that Sameer was to play. Sameer enters the contest and tells Tina that he loves her. Before the final round of the competition, he discovers that his father’s shop in Delhi has been demolished. Sameer promises Tina that he will come back for her and returns to Delhi to help his father. After watching Sameer’s performance on TV, his father convinces him to go back to Mumbai and participate in the show. Sameer is late to the final round and is initially denied entry. However, he convinces the director to give him a chance. He wins the competition and becomes the hero of the movie “Chance Pe Dance.” He is shown walking the red carpet a year later with Tina.

Jeetu, the son of a retired teacher named Jaidev Prasad, is debt-ridden due to many failed businesses. Jeetu breaks off his engagement with his promised fiancé, Pooja and decides to commit suicide by throwing himself into the sea for insurance money that his father would pay off his debts. However, Jeetu is found tangled in the fishing nets by a pair of fishermen, Gundya and Bandya who rescue him and mistake him to be mute and deaf.
Gundya owes money to a Gujarati businessman, Prabhat Singh Chauhan, who takes away Gundya’s boat. Gundya cunningly makes Prabhat believe that Jeetu is his loving nephew and leaves both Jeetu and Bandya in Prabhat’s house as the guarantee until he returns the money. Prabhat’s niece Shruti is mute too, but not deaf. Her overprotective brother Mangal wants her to get married, however, her muteness makes her an undesirable match. One night, Shruti and her cousin Meenakshi learn Jeetu’s secret and makes him break off Shruti’s undesirable marriage match to keep his secret.
Shruti and Meenakshi send money to Jeetu’s village through Bandya to repay his debts. Bandya returns from the village and tells Jeetu that Pooja is married now. Unaware that Pooja believes herself to be Jeetu’s widow, is living with Jeetu’s family. At the same time, Shruti confesses her love for Jeetu. Mangal approves their marriage after Jeetu reveals he is not deaf and mute. Later, Mangal sends Gundya and Bandya to deliver a suitcase of money to Jeetu’s family to secure their financial well-being. However, while delivering the money they inadvertently reveal that Jeetu is alive. Shocked, Jaidev demands that they take him to Jeetu. Jaidev arrives at Prabhat’s house during Jeetu and Shruti’s engagement ceremony and sees him alive.

Kabir Rajdheer Singh, a house surgeon at the Delhi Institute of Medical Sciences, suffers from severe anger management problems that gain him the reputation of a bully. After a brawl, Kabir is asked to either apologise or leave; he chooses to leave but stays upon seeing a new student, Preeti Sikka, with whom he falls instantly in love.
Later, Kabir and his friends announce that he has exclusively claimed Preeti. Initially timid, she adjusts to his overbearing attitude and eventually reciprocates his feelings, developing an intimate relationship. Kabir graduates with an MBBS degree and moves to Mussoorie for post-graduation. Despite the distance, their relationship strengthens over the next few years. After Preeti graduates, he meets her conservative parents, but her father Harpal catches them kissing and throws him out.
Harpal continues to oppose their relationship, despite Kabir’s attempts to explain their love. Enraged, Kabir asks Preeti to choose between him and her family within the next six hours, or he will end their relationship. Preeti fails to reach back to him in time; feeling abandoned, Kabir injects himself with morphine and remains unconscious for the next two days. On gaining consciousness, he learns that Preeti is being forced into an arranged marriage and gate crashes the wedding party; Harpal has him beaten and arrested. After Kabir is released, his father, Rajdheer, ostracises him from the family for his antics.
With his friend Shiva’s help, Kabir finds a rented flat and joins a private hospital as a surgeon. To cope with his emotions, he abuses drugs and alcohol, attempts one-night stands, has casual relationships, buys a pet dog — none of which are successful. Within months, he becomes a successful surgeon and a high-functioning alcoholic both respected and feared by the hospital staff. His self-destructive behaviour and obsession worry his friends.
While hungover on a day-off, Kabir is called in to perform an emergency surgery for which he unwillingly agrees. During the procedure, he collapses from dehydration. Suspicious, the hospital staff take his blood samples, which contain traces of alcohol and cocaine. A case is filed against him and during an in-house hearing, a broken Kabir admits to alcoholism and violation of medical ethics. As a result, his medical license is suspended for five years and he is evicted from his flat. The next morning, he learns of his grandmother’s death; at the funeral, he and Rajdheer reconcile and he resolves to quit his habits.
