Disney Dream, Halloween on the High Seas, September 2022, Embarkation Day! Join us as we board the beautiful Disney Dream in Miami for our first-ever Halloween Cruise!
We are so excited to share this cruise vlog series! We have had a bucket list of sailings since we first began traveling with Disney Cruise Line (way back in 2013!) and a Halloween cruise has been on that list. What made this trip even more special was sharing Aunt Monique’s first Disney cruise experience! We hope you enjoy the footage of our 3-night sailing!
We arrived at Port of Miami to see the Dream docked. We parked directly across from the terminal and made our way to check-in. The process was relatively easy and before long our boarding group was called. Similar to Port Canaveral, there are some photo spots along the way. Soon it was our turn to hear the announcement of, “Disney Dream please welcome aboard the Duke and Otto family!” as we stepped into the atrium. The Halloween decor is all around from the pumpkins to the Jack O Lanterns in the windows and the huge pumpkin tree!
On embarkation day we love to have a sit-down meal so we headed to Animator’s Palate for lunch. Some of my favorite items were on the menu including the empanadas, pennette pasta, and chicken Caesar salad. The service was fantastic and the food was tasty! Cabana’s is also open for lunch on embarkation day with a variety of buffet items available.
The youth spaces are all open for guests to explore on day 1 so we enjoy visiting not only the Oceaneer’s Club and Lab but we also stop by Edge and Vibe. We share each of these areas where children of all ages can enjoy the time onboard. Our kids were able to visit the Club and Lab as well as Edge during this sailing (though we did have to sign a waiver for Brielle to attend Edge). As adults, we are definitely jealous of some of the amazing offerings in all the youth areas!
Our staterooms were ready shortly before 2pm. For this trip, we booked a deluxe oceanview stateroom with a large porthole window and a standard inside stateroom. We share the interior of both rooms which are each equipped with queen beds and two twin sleepers. The oceanview floorplan is larger and offers a split bathroom as well as plentiful drawer and shelf storage space. The inside stateroom has a magical porthole with views of the aft of the ship. On occasion, characters appear in the porthole which we love as an added touch! The standard inside stateroom was fine for two adults but we did feel that if we had stayed as a family we would have been a little challenged for space. We loved the room locations on deck 8 with easy access to entertainment both above and below.
The Sailing Away deck party is one of our favorite shows featuring all of the characters. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, and Chip and Dale are all part of the festivities! This party gets us ready to set sail for our cruise adventure!
The Golden Mickeys were shown in the Walt Disney Theater. While we could not film the show we do recommend attending. Aunt Monique loved the show and we were so glad to share the experience with her! For the first of our Halloween festivities, we headed to the atrium for the Pumpkin Tree lighting. The Caretaker shared the story of the Headless Horseman and she led the crowd to wake the tree up. This was definitely a cruise highlight!
Dinner for the evening was at Royal Palace. We shared our meals as some of our favorites were on the menu including the deep-fried brie and leek and potato soup. We each tried different entrees which were mostly good. Tim wasn’t a fan of the lamb but he was glad to try something different. Dessert was the real winner with the apple tart, Grand Marnier Soufflé, and sundae.
We had a very full first day on the Dream and can’t wait to share more of the cruise with you. We certainly hope you enjoyed the vlog. Onward to our next Halloween adventure!
